Because in Davao, people are relatively secure.
We know who we are.We know we are in the best place in the world.
We won’t rave about it too much for fear that everybody will want to move here.

You can bomb the hell out of us, but we won’t leave this place.

City High alumnus is top 2 in military academy class of 2005

A DABAWENYO marched with flying colors during the 100th commencement exercise of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) at Fort del Pilar, Baguio City, Saturday.

Antonio G. Bulao I, of Buhangin, Davao City, graduated Magna Cum Laude of the Sanlingan Class 2005 of the PMA.

Among the awards Bulao received during the graduation rites include President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Achievement Award for Leadership, Philippine Army Saber’s Award, Vice Presidential Saber’s Award, Natural Sciences Award, Engineering Sciences Award, Weapons Systems Award, Tambuli Award and Jusmag Army Award.

Being the brigade commander of his batch, Bulao was also given the Chief of Staff Saber’s Award.

Bulao is said to have chosen to join the Philippine Army after graduation.

Meanwhile, a high school classmate of Bulao at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) expressed elation over his achievement in the PMA.

Judee Bacus, a Philippine Science High School teacher, remembers Bulao as the Damath King.

Damath, Judee said, in a math competition uses the formula similar to a chess game.

“Maremember nako mahadlok og earthworm si Bulao kadtong nakauban nako siya sa camping (I could remember that Bulao was afraid of earthworm when we’ve been together in one camping) activity that we facilitated. He was the president of the DCNHS Boy Scout,” Bacus said.

Bacus said Bulao is a “gentleman, a joker and a determined leader.”

“Crush ng Bayan siya and he is also fond of calling for a reunion with his classmates in high school,” Bacus said, adding that Bulao graduated Salutatorian also in high school.

News like this makes you proud to be a an Astig City High graduate and a Dabawenyo.

Araw ng mga Kababaihan!

Ngayon nalalapit ang Araw ng mga kababaihan, nais kong ipagdiwang ang araw na ito sa pagsaludo sa lahat ng babae sa buong mundo.

Sa paglipas ng taon, ang kahulugan ng pagiging maganda ay nagbago. Mula sa pananamit, kulay ng buhok, hanggang sa hugis ng katawan. Binago ng modernong teknolohiya ang pananaw ng mga kababaihan sa salitang maganda. Ngunit marami pa rin ang naniniwala na ang pagiging maganda ay mula sa ibat-ibang hugis, laki, kulay, edad at kung ano ang nasa iyong kalooban.

Ang pagiging maganda ay di lamang para sa mga modelo or artistang nakikita natin sa telebisyon o pahayagan. Di rin ibig sabihin na di ka maganda kung mataba ka, matanda ka na, o kung ang baywang mo ay tatlumpot lima at isang daaan labinglima naman ang bigat mo.

Hindi ito ang basehan ng pagiging maganda. Ang pagiging maganda ang galing sa iyong kalooban, sa iyong araw araw na ginawa para sa kapwa o mula sa iyong isip, salita at gawa. Nasa iyo ang lahat ng kagandahan at nasa iyo na rin kung paano mo iyan pagagandahin pa.

Yan ang nais iparating ng mga taong gumawa ng Campaign for Real Beauty ang Dove Self Esteem Fund. Ang mga babaing nasa komersyal hindi mga propesyonal na modelo o aktor. Sila ay mga simpleng batang babae na gustong iparating ang kanilang pananaw kung ano ang maganda sa kanila.
